India vs New Zealand World Cup 2019 Semi-Final highlights: New Zealand bowlers put up a clinical show to restrict India to 221 in the first World Cup semifinal at Old Trafford. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja put up a 100-run partnership after India got off to a disastrous start. In-form batsman Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were both caught by the keeper off the bowling of Matt Henry. Skipper Virat Kohli could also just score 1 run before he was dismissed by Trent Boult.
Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya got off to a start, but both threw their wickets away trying to up the ante. Dhoni (50 runs off 72 balls) and Jadeja (77 runs off 59 balls) put up a brave fight in the last 15 overs, but India fell short by 18 runs in the end.
After the defeat, Team India skipper Virat Kohli said that 45 minutes of unacceptable bad cricket had resulted in India’s exit from the World Cup.
Earlier on Wednesday, New Zealand scored 28 more runs losing three wickets to set India a target of 240 runs to win the first semi-final at Old Trafford, Manchester. Starting the reserve day on 211-5, New Zealand lost Ross Taylor and Tom Latham quickly as Ravindra Jadeja showed his brilliance on the field. Jadeja first removed set Taylor with a brilliant direct throw and then took an outstanding catch in the outfield to send Latham back to the pavilion.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided a solid start as they kept the New Zealand batsmen quiet in the early part of the innings. Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Chahal also maintained a tight line and length not allowing the New Zealand batsmen to break free.
The winner of the second semifinal between England and Australia will face New Zealand in the World Cup 2019 final.
