New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra
Modi has reached Chandrashekhar Azad University in Kanpur to attend the first
meeting of the National Ganga Council. Here he is observing the Namami Gange
exhibition. Earlier, on arrival in Kanpur, CM Yogi Adityanath welcomed PM Modi.
Some more officials of the party were also present. The Namami Gange project is
described by the BJP government as its dream project. The meeting also includes
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several union ministers,
secretaries of several central government departments. The Prime Minister will
review the dimensions related to cleanliness of river Ganga. They are also
likely to visit the boat.
The meeting is being held at
Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur today. The
projects relating to river Ganga mainly pertain to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West
Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. Chief ministers or representatives from five
states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal will participate
in the ganga bank. However, the Chief Minister of West Bengal has not yet been
confirmed to be involved.
According to a statement by the
Deputy Chief Minister's office of Bihar, deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar
Modi from Bihar will participate in the first meeting of the National Ganga
Council held on December 14 in Kanpur under the chairmanship of the Prime
Minister. The meeting will consider extending the expiry period of the
programme with a detailed review of Namami Gange's plans.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi said, rs 28,628 crore has been
sanctioned under the programme across the country out of which Rs 4,653.81
crore is being spent mainly on construction of STP and its network in Bihar. In
addition, plantation in villages along the Banks of Ganga, preventing emission
of industrial units from flowing into Ganga and construction of ghats and
crematoria etc.
